He Couldn’t Hold It In Anymore: Anthony Finally Exposes What Shayla’s Been Doing Behind Everyone’s Back
Scene: Late afternoon at Shania’s apartment. The golden sun leaks through the blinds. Anthony is pacing the floor, visibly agitated. Shania sits on the couch, sipping tea, watching him closely. There’s tension in the air.
Shania:
Anthony… you’ve been pacing for fifteen minutes. Just say it. What happened?
Anthony (rubbing his temples):
I’m trying, Shania. I really am. But every time I think I’m over it… she does something else that just—grrr!—pushes me right back to square one!
Shania (sits up, alert):
You’re talking about Shayla again, aren’t you?
Anthony (laughs bitterly):
Who else would I be talking about? Shayla's like a beautiful storm. She pulls you in, spins you around, and when it’s all said and done, you’re drenched in regret and confusion.
Shania:
Wow. That’s deep. And dramatic. But it sounds like you finally hit your limit.
Anthony:
I have, Shania. I’m serious this time. Today… today was something else.
Shania (concerned):
What happened?
Anthony (sits down, shoulders tense):
We were at Wayne’s spot. You know how everybody just passes through there. Shayla walks in with this… look on her face. I already knew she had something on her chest. She walks straight past everyone—like she on a mission—and plants herself right in front of me.
Shania:
What did she say?
Anthony:
She goes, “You didn’t call me back.” Just like that. No hello. No how are you. No nothing.
Shania (frowns):
Wait, didn’t y’all agree to give each other space for a while?
Anthony:
Exactly! That was her idea, not mine. But you know how Shayla is—rules only apply when she’s the one setting them. So, I told her, “I thought we agreed to take some time.” And you know what she did?
Shania:
Let me guess… blew up?
Anthony:
In front of everybody. She rolled her eyes, crossed her arms, and started raising her voice, talking about how I always make her feel unwanted and like I’m never there when she needs me.
Shania (angrily):
That’s not fair. You’ve been there for her more than anyone!
Anthony (nods):
Exactly. I said that too. I said, “Shayla, do you know how many times I put my needs on hold for you?” But that didn’t matter. She started bringing up things from a year ago. Things I thought we moved past. It’s like every time I try to grow, she drags me back into the mud.
Shania (quietly):
She still has a hold on you.
Anthony (sighs):
I hate to admit it, but yeah. She does. But not in the way she used to. It’s like… I’m tired, Shania. Tired of the drama. Tired of walking on eggshells. Tired of never knowing which version of Shayla I’m gonna get.
Shania (leans in):
So what are you gonna do? You can't keep living like this.
Anthony:
I know. And I told her that. I told her, “You’re aggravating, Shayla. You push and pull and twist everything until nobody knows what’s real anymore.”
Shania (surprised):
You actually said that to her?
Anthony:
Yeah. I did. She went silent for a second. Then those eyes of hers got glassy, like she was gonna cry. But I didn’t back down this time.
Shania:
Good. Because every time she acts like the victim, you end up carrying her guilt.
Anthony:
And I’m done with that. I told her I can’t be her emotional punching bag anymore. She gets mad, I absorb it. She breaks down, I hold her up. But when I need something—anything—she’s too caught up in her own chaos.
Shania (softly):
Do you still love her?
Anthony (pause):
I… I don’t know. I loved her once. Maybe a part of me always will. But what we have now? It’s not love. It’s survival. And I don’t wanna survive anymore. I want to live.
Shania (touches his hand):
You deserve that. You really do.
Anthony (looks into her eyes):
Thank you. You’ve always been the one who sees me clearly. No games. No drama. Just realness. And peace.
Shania (smiles faintly):
That’s what friends are for.
Anthony:
Shania…
Shania (curious):
Hmm?
Anthony (carefully):
What if… what if it’s more than friendship?
Shania (taken aback):
Anthony…
Anthony (quickly):
I’m not saying it to complicate things. I just… I think I’ve been looking in the wrong direction for peace. All this time, I was trying to fix something broken with Shayla, when maybe I should’ve been building something new with someone who already brings calm into my life.
Shania (quiet):
That’s a big shift.
Anthony:
Yeah. But today felt like a turning point. Something in me snapped. I finally saw her for who she is—not who I wished she’d be.
Shania (nods):
And who you are when you’re around her.
Anthony:
Exactly. I don’t like that version of me. I’m angry. Defensive. Anxious. But with you… I’m just me.
Shania:
So what now?
Anthony:
I don’t know. I’m not asking you to jump into anything. I just… needed to say it. To be honest. And to finally let go of whatever hold Shayla had on me.
Shania (after a long pause):
I’m proud of you, Anthony. It takes strength to walk away from something familiar—even if it’s toxic. And as for us… let’s take our time. Let’s just keep being real. No expectations. No pressure.
Anthony (smiles):
That’s all I want.
(They sit in silence for a moment. The tension slowly fades. Outside, the sun dips lower, casting a soft glow on the room. For the first time in a long time, Anthony feels free.)
