Anthony Took Shayla’s Hand, Prayed Over Her Ring Finger… and Said 5 Words That Changed Everything 😮
Scene: Shayla's Apartment – Late Evening. The tension is thicker than the silence. Shayla paces the floor while Anthony stands by the window, eyes closed, breathing deeply.
Shayla:
(arms crossed)
"You said you needed to talk, Anthony. So talk. Just don’t waste my time."
Anthony:
(softly, still not turning around)
"I ain’t here to waste it, Shayla. I’m here to honor it."
Shayla:
(scoffs)
"Honor it? Now that’s new. Is that what you were doing when you ghosted me for three days straight?"
Anthony:
(turning slowly, eyes sincere)
"I wasn’t ghosting you. I was praying. Fighting. Trying to figure out if I was man enough to give you what you really deserve."
Shayla:
(her voice breaks slightly, but she hides it with sarcasm)
"A prayer marathon, huh? Did God text you back?"
Anthony:
(smiling just a little)
"Yeah, actually. And He told me something I wasn’t ready to hear... until tonight."
Shayla:
(softens slightly but stands her ground)
"Anthony, I’ve heard all the sweet talk. I’ve seen men promise rings, houses, futures. I’m not here for fairy tales anymore."
Anthony:
(steps closer, voice low)
"Good. ‘Cause this ain’t no fairy tale. It’s war. And I’m fighting for you."
He reaches for her hand. She hesitates. He waits, patient. Slowly, she lets him take it.
Anthony:
(quietly)
"May I pray?"
Shayla:
(confused)
"Now? For what?"
Anthony:
(glancing down at her left hand)
"For this. For your ring finger. For what it really means."
Shayla swallows hard. Her lips part slightly, but no words come out. She nods.
Anthony:
(closing his eyes, holding her hand gently)
"Father… thank You for this woman. Thank You for her strength, for her fire, and for her fragile heart that she guards so fiercely."
Shayla:
(whispers)
"Anthony..."
Anthony:
(still praying)
"I’m not perfect. You know I’ve made mistakes. But I don’t come here with excuses tonight—I come with intention. Bless this finger, Lord... because one day, it’s gonna carry a promise. And I don’t want it to carry a ring unless it’s backed by purpose."
He opens his eyes. Tears glisten in Shayla’s. The air between them is heavy now—too real to fake.
Anthony:
(softly)
"And when I put that ring on you one day… it’s gonna mean something eternal."
Shayla:
(barely a whisper)
"You’re serious."
Anthony:
(steps even closer, now holding both her hands)
"I’m done playing with you, Shayla. I’m not here to borrow your time—I’m here to build with it."
Shayla tries to speak but stops. Anthony raises her hand and gently kisses the ring finger. Then he looks her dead in the eyes.
Anthony:
“You’re already my wife inside.”
The room goes still. Shayla’s breath catches. The 5 words he just said feel like thunder wrapped in tenderness. She steps back, clutching her chest.
Shayla:
"What… what did you just say?"
Anthony:
(repeating slowly, clearly)
"You're already my wife inside."
Shayla:
(voice trembling)
"That ain’t something you just say, Anthony."
Anthony:
"I didn’t just say it. I declared it. In front of God. In front of my fears. In front of everything that ever tried to stop me from being the man you need."
She stares at him. Her walls begin to crumble, brick by brick. Her tough exterior—so carefully built—is cracking.
Shayla:
"Why now?"
Anthony:
"Because I almost lost you to confusion. To doubt. To silence. But I realized something in that silence—I never needed a ring to recognize who you are to me. I just needed courage."
Shayla:
(tears sliding down her cheeks now)
"That’s... that's the scariest thing anyone’s ever said to me."
Anthony:
(smiling softly)
"Good. Because love ain’t supposed to be safe. It’s supposed to be sacred."
He lets her hand go. For a second, she looks like she might fall without it.
Shayla:
"And what now, Anthony?"
Anthony:
"We grow. We heal. We build. I ain’t asking you to marry me tonight. I’m asking you to believe in something bigger than a proposal. I’m asking you to see the man I’m becoming—for you, for us."
Shayla:
"You think a prayer can fix everything?"
Anthony:
"No. But it’s where the fixing starts."
Silence again. But this time, it’s not awkward—it’s reverent. Holy, even.
Shayla:
(whispers)
"I felt something when you said that."
Anthony:
"Me too."
She walks slowly toward him again. Their faces are inches apart.
Shayla:
"You better mean it."
Anthony:
"I do. More than I’ve ever meant anything in my life."
Scene Ends with Shayla leaning her forehead against Anthony’s, her hand still tingling from the prayer. The ring isn’t there yet… but something stronger is: the beginning of forever.
