Anthony Walks Into a Storm—Wayne Finally Tells Him the Truth About Amber!
INT. WAYNE’S OFFICE – LATE AFTERNOON
The room is quiet, a soft hum of the air conditioner filling the silence. Papers are scattered on the desk, and Wayne leans back in his chair, staring at the door as if expecting something heavy. And then—
[DOOR SWINGS OPEN]
ANTHONY:
(storming in, breathing hard)
Man, tell me it ain’t true.
WAYNE:
(calmly, without flinching)
What did you hear, Anthony?
ANTHONY:
Don’t play dumb, bruh. I heard it straight. You and Amber. Business together? Behind my back?
WAYNE:
(leans forward, voice low but firm)
Yeah… it’s true.
ANTHONY:
(laughs bitterly, pacing)
Wow. You really went there. Of all people… Amber?
WAYNE:
You think I owe you an apology for something I didn’t hide? You just wasn’t listening, Anthony. I been trying to tell you for weeks.
ANTHONY:
Weeks? You serious? Man, I been trusting you with everything. And you start building a business with my ex like that’s normal?
WAYNE:
Amber ain’t just your “ex,” Anthony. She’s got vision. She brought something to the table I needed.
ANTHONY:
(stops pacing, glares)
Yeah? What else she bring to the table, huh?
WAYNE:
Don’t do that. Don’t go there. You know it’s business. Strictly.
ANTHONY:
Then why you moving in the dark, huh? Why didn’t you tell me from jump?
WAYNE:
Because I knew you’d react like this. You act like she’s still yours. Y’all not together. Been not together. You don’t get to control her moves—or mine.
ANTHONY:
It’s the principle, Wayne! You supposed to be my boy. My brother. There’s lines you don’t cross, and this—this was one of them.
WAYNE:
Let me ask you something, Anthony. Would you rather I lied to you? Or that I kept moving behind your back forever?
ANTHONY:
Man, I don’t know anymore. You already did both.
WAYNE:
That’s where you’re wrong. We started this after you and Amber ended. She came to me with a business idea, and I saw the potential. I didn’t even look at her like that—don’t get it twisted.
ANTHONY:
But you knew it’d hit a nerve.
WAYNE:
Yeah. I did. But I wasn’t gonna let that stop us from making something real. We built something good, man. Real good.
ANTHONY:
(folds arms, voice tight)
So what now? You expect me to just accept it? Smile and shake hands like I’m cool with all this?
WAYNE:
I expect you to be a grown man. Handle it like one. You don’t have to like it. But respect it.
[PAUSE. SILENCE.]
ANTHONY:
So how deep y’all in?
WAYNE:
We co-own a marketing firm. Started three months ago. It’s small, but the vision is big. She handles the branding and client outreach, I manage the strategy. We’re a solid team.
ANTHONY:
And this whole time… not a word?
WAYNE:
We weren’t hiding it. We were protecting it. You know how messy things get when emotions get involved. I didn’t want our friendship to cloud the business.
ANTHONY:
Well, you got your wish. The friendship’s clouded now, alright.
WAYNE:
That’s on you. Not me.
ANTHONY:
(softens, eyes drifting to the floor)
You know I still cared about her, man. I ain’t say it out loud, but… I wasn’t over it. Not fully.
WAYNE:
And I ain’t tryna rub salt in your wounds. But this ain’t about feelings. This is about growth. About moving forward. Amber needed a partner who saw her vision. And I needed someone who could match my grind. That’s all it is.
ANTHONY:
(slowly sits down, exhaling)
It still hurts.
WAYNE:
I get it. And I’m sorry—for how it went down. But I’m not sorry we did it. She’s doing incredible work. You’d be proud if you let yourself be.
ANTHONY:
I don’t know if I can ever fully trust you the same.
WAYNE:
Then that’s something you’ll have to figure out. But just know—nothing shady happened. No betrayal. Just business.
ANTHONY:
Yeah… business that feels personal.
WAYNE:
Everything feels personal when there’s history involved. But we’re not in high school no more. You can either sit in your feelings or step up and realize not everything’s about you.
ANTHONY:
(nods slowly)
Alright. You told me the truth. That’s something.
WAYNE:
It’s everything.
ANTHONY:
I’m gonna need time, though. I can’t just flip a switch and smile.
WAYNE:
Take all the time you need. But don’t let your pride ruin something real. Me and you—we built too much to throw it away.
ANTHONY:
We’ll see. I gotta sort through this. Figure out if I can stand seeing y’all… work together without it eating at me.
WAYNE:
We never crossed no emotional lines, bro. Not once. I give you my word.
ANTHONY:
That your final word?
WAYNE:
Yeah. It is. But if you ever feel like stepping into this venture, there’s a seat for you too. That ain’t changed.
[LONG SILENCE]
Anthony stands. Wayne doesn’t move.
ANTHONY:
We’ll talk again. Just… not today.
WAYNE:
I’ll be here.
[DOOR CLOSES GENTLY BEHIND ANTHONY]
